Mirza Ghalib College, Gaya was established in 1969, the death centenary year of great Urdu poet, Mirza Asadullah Khan Ghalib, The college has made rapid strides in the field of education and allied activities. Brainchild of a group of committed philanthropists who pooled together their resources and energy to spread the light of contemporary education among the hitherto under privileged sections of society particularly those belonging to religious and linguistic minority groups, The institution has made a place for itself on the academic map of the state and the country.
The philanthropists but for whose commitment and JUNOON (passion), the college would not have been what it is today include Abdul Hafeez (Founder President) and Abdus Salam (Founder Secretary).
Stepping in the field of higher education on a modest note, the college, over the years has developed as an institute having modern facilities and tools to equip its students to meet the demands and challenges of modern education and real life with confidence, vision and an infectiously positive frame of mind.
Located at a central place in the historic City of Gaya, the point of convergence of different religious belief systems and known all over the world for its accommodativeness, tolerance and forward looking character, the college has emerged, not only as a centre of study and training but also as a model of harmony and development.
Besides imparting degree level education in the faculties of Arts, Science, Commerce and Humanities, the college has also got the distinction of being the only minority college in the states of Bihar and Jharkhand to be affiliated for Post Graduate teaching in important and popular subjects like Botany, Chemistry, Psychology and Zoology. The National Council for the Promotion of Urdu Language has adopted the college as a centre for linking Urdu language with contemporary trends and equip. Urdu language students with the skills required in the job market as well as serious pursuit of knowledge.
Apart from conventional education, the college has introduced teaching in Management, Computer Application and Bio Technology at the degree level and plans to enter the arena of Post Graduate Teaching and research in the emerging disciplines. Gifted with a devoted and well qualified faculty, the College has got a well maintained library, fully equipped laboratories and state of the art auditorium.
