About Department
Department of Home Science at Mirza Ghalib College, Gaya detached itself from the Department of Home Science, Sociology and Geography in the year 2017. Before that there was no exclusive department for Home Science. All academic activities pertaining to Home Science were carried out under one single department which overviewed Sociology and Geography as well.
Currently, there are two professors teaching in the department namely Dr. Tabassum Farhana, who also happen to be the Department Head, and Dr. Mala Singh. Courses are only offered at intermediate and graduation level. There are no courses being offered at the post-graduation level as of now. Course completion at both intermediate and graduation level are subject to completion of theory and practical classes.
Given the recent trend, Department of Home Science is gradually seeing an increase in the number of students being admitted to the course at both intermediate and graduation levels. This could be attributed to a change in people’s perception towards the subject in a positive way. Where earlier the course was mostly opted by girls, Dept. of Home Science at Mirza Ghalib College, Gaya has also managed to attract boys by its engaging course curricula.
