About the Department


The English department is one of the pioneer departments of the College established in 1969. Dr.Nasar Hameed was the founding teacher of the department. He also served as vice principal and retired in 2000. Dr. Zeyarat khan was the second senior most teacher who also served as Teacher Representative at different points of time.Dr. Wudud khan and Dr.Md Equbal were very renowned teachers. Dr. Md Equbal unfortunately died in 2005 during service period. Prof(Dr.)Ainul Haque joined the department in 1982 and after rendering invaluable contributions to the department as Head for a considerable long period retired in 2023. It was during his headship that the department achieved many milestones. Post graduate courses were introduced in 2014.In December 2016 two days national seminar was organised on Shakespeare which was a resounding success. Dr. Md Aftab Alam , an associate professor has been working since January 2004. He is presently the head of the department taking charge in June 2021.Dr. Shujaat Ali Khan, a contemporary of Dr Md Aftab Alam, is Associate Professor who rendered his services to the College as a vice principal , as a Professor Incharge and also as Teacher Representative.Dr. Sarwat Shamsi has been working as an assistant professor since May 2006. She was also Teacher Representative. Dr. Wudud Khan, Dr Md Aftab Alam, Dr. Shujaat Ali Khan and Dr. Sarwat Shamsi all have got international experience in teaching in various universities in Saudi Arabia for a considerable period of time. Dr. Naiyer Azam has been working as an assistant professor since June 2006.
